So many new gadgets, nothing can be too crazy or “out there”
in today’s society. But what about a
bracelet that counts every calorie you burn.
You heard it right… this calorie counting bracelet is Nike’s newest
invention and you’ve heard it first from SourceFed! Watch this 2 minute video and think of these
questions…..
Who is the target audience and how do you know? Is the video just reporting the facts, or is
it somewhat biased? How so? How is humor incorporated in getting the point
across? Is this video successful in
sharing the facts? What does the video
do to promote this band? Do you think a
band like this is necessary to wear?
Would you wear one? What are the positive
and negative effects this band could have on society? Have people become too paranoid in health,
has this gone too far? How far do you
think society will go to promote healthy living?

Not to be rude to the people who posted this blog or anything.....but this is pretty stupid. I don't think anybody cares enough to carry around a bracelet at all, regardless if it tracks their calorie loss. I think the target market for this video was for young people. They tried to be funny, but dramatically failed in doing so. To be honest, I believe in being healthy and all that. But in a lot of situations in life, like college or work for example, you eat whatever is available to you, not necessarily what is healthy. I think our society is too paranoid in looks and appearance and who has time for this kind've shit.
The target audience for this product is definitely Americans who are obsessed with fitness. Fitness has been shoved down everyone's throats from eating healthy to working out at the gym. I don't think it is necessary to wear this band at all because we don't entirely know how accurate it is. The video promotes this band by showing how many calories you burn during various activities. They choose strange ones, like smoking, to catch the viewers interest and make them curious as to how many calories they naturally burn throughout the day. A positive effect this band could have is that it could make people more aware of their actual state of fitness. However, this could negatively affect society by causing people to become even more obsessed with fitness than they already are. Society can't go much farther, in my opinion, to promote healthy living since we've already developed products, surgeries, routines, and lifestyles that are centered around either being healthy or being at an ideal stage of fitness.
Obviously, the product is targeted towards early adopters in the world of technology who happened to be obsessed with "calories burning" as well; however, this video itself is more like a presentation of informations and opinions instead of an advertisement of the product. Basically the video tells the audiences about this new product called the "Fuelband" which tracks how much calories are burned through any kind of activities. Although the video is showing a few test results from another website which show the calories burned associated with some trivial activities like using toilet and brushing teeth, it seems they don't really think the product works when they constantly sound sarcastic while reporting the data.
Through the video as well, the video makers are adressing the problem in today's society where a lot of people, in order to be fit, are simply taking unreasonable "shortcuts" instead of really go for exercises and workouts. The guy in the video is being satirical of the phenomenon when he says he lied about working out like crazy but he still takes protein supplement to "sustain muscle" as well as when he air-quotes the phrase "working out". By introducing the product in this context, the video makers are suggesting that the "Fuelband" is just another gimmick product or "shortcut" that lead to anywhere but fitness.
The video was clearly targeted towards the young adults, because the video has showed lot activities only young adults would do; such as drinking. I believe the video could be true, I knew everything I do will cost calories, however it is insignificant compare to how much we are eating or drinking every day: a can of soda has around 160 calories, and even two pieces of cookie have around 170 calories. Therefore the band is not necessary, if somebody choose to wear the band then the person should also wear a band which would tell him or her that how much calories they are taking in every day. As long as we are eating health and exercise regularly we don’t have to watch our weight that carefully.
I believe the target audience are people who are fit nuts or just curious about their health. The video seems to be unbiased and just seems to record the facts. However, you can see the band being promoted with the nike logo and mentioning the bands creator throughout the video. Negatively, everyone's gonna get one of these bands and think they're working out when they're really not. What the advertisement doesn't tell you is that it doesn't count how many calories you intake. Positively the band may turn people to become more healthy and fit. I could get people to focus more on their health and create goals. I would wear one just because I'm curious how much I would burn and what exercises would be surprising. If I get hooked on the product I might create daily calorie burning goals. When it comes to health, the boundaries are limitless. Everyone wants to find a cheat way to that perfect body they see in magazines and on t.v. People become more and more paranoid everyday and this band isn't far enough.
The target audience is definitely young adults who are really into physical fitness. The video uses satire as they are explaining how doing things such as drinking or having sex will result in calories burned. They are trying to appeal to this young adult audience by telling them that they are always burning calories no matter what they do and this bracelet will help them keep track of it all. I don't think this bracelet is necessary because even though we do burn calories in everything we do I don't know how accurate it could be. I also think this would result in people being even more obsessed with burning calories, and that isn't healthy. If people just eat healthy and exercise often they don't need to worry about how many calories they are burning in every little activity.
The target audience is definitely young adults. The video talks about drinking, being hungover, having sex, sitting at the computer and other things that would pertain to young adults. By talking about burning calories in all these activities, the video is trying to get the target audience interested in how many calories they might burn doing these same activities. This way, they would be more intrigued and thus, more likely to buy the band. Personally, I would never buy one of these bands. Getting exercise during the day is important, but someone should not obsess over every single calorie they burn. Rather, eat healthy and go to the gym and you won't have to worry about it. Also, a device like this is probably not very accurate. This could cause problems if people start to obsess over the calories they burn daily.
When watching the video, I started to think that the audience being targeted was people who are really into being fit. Particularly, people of our age, since young people tend to be more physically active. Even though this video is stating facts, I do feel it is somewhat biased. They where reporting facts that they thought were ridiculous, like how your body burns more calories smoking a cigarette than walking up the stairs. Humor is also incorporated to get their point across. Like I said before, they were pointing out every ridiculous and somewhat funny things you could do to burn calories, like taking a poop.
This video does help promote the band in some ways. First of all, it is making the product known, so anyone who likes the idea of monitoring their calorie burning can do so. I, personally, don't think a band like this is necessary though. Someone wanting to track the calories they burned during a jog sounds reasonable. However, it's not really necessary to wear it in the shower, doing dishes, or eating. By having a band that tracks your every burned calorie just shows how paranoid society has become with being 'fit'. It's always good to be healthy, but some products take monitoring your health way too far.
The target audience in this video is high school students to college students. The humor is meant for college students. The way the video presents the bracelet made me feel as if it is fun just to see all the different ways I can burn calories. I felt like it didn’t focus on the health aspect as much. The reason for this is because it poked fun at how, drinking, having sex, and smoking can burn calories. The positive effects of the band are that people may be able keep track of calories they burn and adjust their work out routine accordingly. The negatives are that society may be going over the top with all the technology, and it’s hard to know what is even reliable anymore. I think that people are rightfully paranoid with their health because obesity is growing in America. At the same time I don’t think people should go crazy with all the supplements or devises they buy to help them. That can be very costly when the answer is simple, exercise more often.
This product is obviously targeted towards young adults due to the fact that it is high tech and also the fact that it is made by Nike, a popular sports brand amongst America’s youth. The two people in the video use sarcasm to show that they think that it’s just another gimmick, though they don’t directly say it. They poke fun at the product by pointing out that activities like smoking, washing the dishes, and defecating burn more calories than actual healthy, productive things. I think that wearing one of these bands sounds kind of ridiculous. This product will more often than not create people that go nuts about counting calories and may do more unhealthy things to themselves in order to burn more calories. I think this product could possibly be a future problem to society in the making.

I think that the target audience is young people. The writers of this piece incorporate humor to entice people to buy their product. Also, this is a high tech product which usually attracts a younger crowd. I think that this band is a bit ridiculous though. Being healthy is about eating right, exercising and doing everything in moderation. This band encourages people to cut corners so they don't have to exercise more.
The target audience is to people who love to workout. This product will prove how much calories you burn and make you feel good about yourself so why wouldn't anyone not like it? This video reports the facts of many useless things. Of course it is biased because it is trying to only promote their product. Humor is used to show the facts about the ridiculous kinds of things that will make you burn calories. The contrast between the two people also allows for some humor since she is down to earth not full of it, where as the guy is all about himself. The video promotes the band by trying to show you that you can do anything to burn calories.
This product is obviously targeting those people who care their calories intake and consumption a lot. The video looks like is trying to make fun of the product, also reports the facts which the product will count every calorie burned. Contrasting the slight daily physical activity with the actual exercise in terms of calorie makes the idea of calorie more impressive and presents how meticulous the product is. I’m not a calorie enthusiasm and have no interest of wearing this product daily. The product might be able push me to exercise more but it might also make me feel ill at ease when I look at the number. I think concerning too much about calories or not at all are both bad.
Nike is defiantly targeting all the athletes in general; especially all the younger ones by adding humor to the main fact that they can track their weight loss min by min even during normal life style. Which is more challenging , motivating and fun at the same time. I think Nike succeeded sharing the facts about the new product. Even so, I just don’t think I will be interested in buying a Nike sport band, for me its just, laziness, too much technology, I prefer the traditional balanced way of be fit.
The target audience is exactly the two people showing the product. Lazish, college students. I think they would be more successful by marketing it to motivated, in shape people. THe device is actually kinda cool but it need to be used correctly.
The humor in this video is poorly placed. I do not think it is successful in sharing the facts because it caters to the wrong audience.
I would wear this band. ONly because I am a huge geek when it comes to counting calories and stuff.
Health paranoia has gone to far though. All of these magic pills and bands and stuff won't really work. It is a simple equation: diet+exercise=in shape.
Clearly, the target audience is young adults. But does the video do a poor job of promoting this product and making it seem so ridiculous? When in reality, it could be really cool, especially for people who enjoy health and would use it for good. The two hosts clearly talk about very non-sensical activities like defecating.
I think that the target audience for this video is younger adults. It seems to me like that is the age group that is most interested in the whole fitness craze. I personally think this video doesn't do a very good job. I think they make the product almost seem like a joke. It almost seems like they are making fun of something rather then trying to sell it. I also think this product is a little ridiculous. I think it is ridiculous to count the exact number of calories that you burn throughout the day. It is ok to be healthy but this seems like it would make people to paranoid and could be a bad thing.
I think the target audience for this advertisement is people working out, primarily towards teenagers. The people presenting are young and fit, which would appeal to younger people. The bracelet itself also looks pretty high tech, making it possibly look "cool." Personally, I don't think I'd ever wear one, just because I think it would be somewhat of a hassle to wear. I don't know about other people, but my parents were always into these things so I wouldn't be surprised if I found one of my parents wearing one of them. I think people have gone a bit too far with this. Working out is enough to be healthy, there really is not a specific calorie line you should aim for, that I know of at least.
The target audience is definitely our generation. We are obsessed with being fit, and also having the latest gadget or app. I would think about buying one, however I would not actually buy it for its intended purpose. I am a huge fan of Nike, and one of my good friends is a spokesperson for Nike, so I would get one just to have it, and support the Nike image. I do not feel that it is effective how the video is completely poking fun at the band making it seem like it is a complete waste of your time. However, I do like how they keep this video casual while still getting a point across.
The target audience is the younger generations who like gadgets like this. I do not think that this is entirely about the fitness crave though. Some one who just wants to see how many calories he burns in one day would buy this product. I think it would be cool to see how many calories you burn in one day. I would consider buying this product because it would be cool to see how it works and how many calories I burn just by doing my daily activities.
